Beautyfix Spotlight: Pop Beauty’s Glitz Blitz

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

By Jenna

Pop beauty has always been a standout brand because of their conveniently-cute packaging and their electric colors. From color cosmetics to nail polish, Pop Beauty brings influences straight from fashion forward London. You’ll find their new Glitz Blitz eyeliners in the latest season of Beautyfix just in time for fall to add a little glitz and glam to your makeup routine. All of Pop’s formulas are long-lasting and silky that also incorporates step-by-step instructions for foolproof makeup application.

What I love about Glitz Blitz is how each color is mixed with added sparkle for that little extra glam.  These eyeliners deliver intense color along with soothing Vitamin E all while being water resistant. In Beautyfix you have your choice of Blue Beam, Wine Wink, Olive Oomph, Black Blitz, Teal Twinkle and Brown Brilliance to help highlight your gorgeous peepers. I was pleasantly surprised at how long the eyeliner lasts after application! Although I’m a little iffy on the exact texture of the eyeliners, the stand out color they deliver is a great addition to my normal eye makeup routine.

With any of the colors, you can create either a subtle thin line for subtle sparkle or a thick line for all around glamour. Using any color form the Glitz Blitz collection will complement your eyes for a day or night look. Add the perfect amount of drama for fall and the holiday season by using a creamy eyelid primer first, and one of the Glitz Blitz colors on top. Slowly fill in your lid with the glittery color and blend with a brush. Most importantly, have fun!

Revamp your Makeup Bag for Spring

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

Spring cleaning shouldn’t just revolve around re-organizing the house. Revamping your makeup bag is an easy way to toss out those old tubes and refresh your look. I’m not talking about throwing out all of your coveted beauty items, but a few products should be updated every season. Prepping your cosmetic closet for spring will give you a new palette ready for the warmer months of the year. These Spring beauty must-have items will go with anything spring fresh and make you feel good too.

What to toss:

If you’ve been holding onto that mascara for more than a few months, it’s time to toss it. Old wands and tubes will harbor bacteria and can easily cause eye infections. The best part about throwing away that nasty old tube is that spring is the perfect time to try out colored mascara. A fellow co-worker has been rocking new electric blue mascara and it looks effortlessly beautiful. It’s just the right amount of dark for indoors and in the sun it makes her eyes pop. Same goes for that older tube of lipstick or gloss. If it’s on the fritz, part your ways with it and grab an updated color like honeysuckle pink or a coral-red.

What to pick up:

Dry nail appliqués are the latest when it comes to hot nail trends and I highly recommend them. They are easy to apply, chip-resistant and come in a variety of fun colors for spring. And if you aren’t going to go for the colored mascara, one spring beauty trend to jump on the wagon for is adding a dash of color to your eye shadow palette. Pick up pop beauty’s Goddess Clutch in Day to Play to easily go from a cool neutral blend to a spice of color in just a few seconds. This will help consolidate multiple colors without taking up a ton of space.

The Best Beauty Trends (and the worst!) of 2010

2010 was a pretty beautiful year, literally speaking. Aside from a few missteps and casualties (Bump-its anyone? Jersey Shore-esque tans? Anything from the Taylor Momsen makeup bag?), this past year has ushered in some gorgeous new looks and brought relevance to retro trends as well. Below is a list of some of the best beauty trends 2010 had to offer.

  • Ombre Hair- Good news for those who despise the monthly trips to the salon for touch-ups! Perfectly maintained hair is out and ombre hair is in!  Celebs like Nicole Richie and Rachel Bilson started bucking the beauty rule of root maintenance this summer.
  • Retro hair- Think beehives, a la Scarlet Johanson, and Veronica Lake waves made popular by beauties such as Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie.
  • Cat eye makeup and winged eyeliner- A favorite of everyone from Lauren Conrad to the make up artists at fashion week, this easy-to-achieve look dominated the beauty pages in 2010.  With a steady hand and an easy-to-use liquid eyeliner (I prefer Hourglass Cosmetics Calligraphy Liquid Eyeliner) anyone can perfect this subtle, yet sexy come-hither look. Again, please remember, you are going for subtle, not Little J!
  • Pixie cuts- For the past couple months, stars have been chopping off their long locks one-by-one to reveal a gamine and gorgeous, yet classic do. Celebrities such as Michelle Williams, Ginnifer Goodwin, Carey Mulligan, Emma Watson, Elisha Cuthbert and Rihanna have all made the cut, literally. Beware though; this hair trend is not for everyone.
  • Braids- The braided hair style is my personal favorite look from this year. The mixture of simplicity and versatility, mixed with my laziness and unruly mane, has turned the braid into my go-to hair style.

The worst? There were some doozies! The aforementioned Bump Its, Oompa-Loompa tans, raccoon eye makeup, also snuggies, neon makeup and scraggly extensions (again, bad year for Taylor Momsen) … but the absolute worst beauty trend of 2010? Vajazzling!

Mix it up with Fall 2010 Makeup Trends

If you live on the West Coast like I do, then you know: summer has gotten off to a bit of a late start this year. So, now that they’re finally here, how can we keep these warm nights alive? Easy! Enter Fall 2010 makeup trends. This autumn, it’s all about taking the vibrant colors of summer—and the styles that ruled fall fashion shows—and turning them into brand-new looks that are wearable day and night. Don’t go shelving your bronzer just yet—but do have fun finding out which fall makeup trend you like best!

Fall Makeup Trend # 1: Go Grunge

That’s right—put away the liquid liner. Sure, a classic cat eye is timeless, but smudging it up using pencil eyeliner with a handy angled sponge will infuse your look with a bit of the grunge trend that’s everywhere right now. Hint: the goal here is an I-just-slept-in-my-smoky eye makeup-all-night look. (If you really have, then you get extra points.) To achieve it, reach for an intensely pigmented shade of black, then use the sponge at the end of the pencil and smudge away to get a sexy, edgy must have beauty look.

Fall Makeup Trend # 2: Berry Lips

Lips that scream “very berry” are a definite must to stand out this season. The trick to mastering this fall makeup trend: Don’t shy away from color! Choose a plum, aubergine or berry- red lipstick shade for luscious lips, and try a matte finish if you’re in search of the perfect stained look. Pair this fall makeup trend with fresh, flawless skin and you’re sure to get noticed.

Fall Makeup Trend # 3: Warm it Up

Evocative of gorgeous summertime sunsets, makeup palettes that incorporate glimmering golds and bronzy oranges are here to stay. To harness the inspiration behind bright summer makeup and translate it into a fresh look for fall, look to shimmering bronze eye makeup. How? Use a gold or bronze shadow and line the bottoms of your eyes, or take it a step further by circling both upper and lower lids.

Get Spring Chic with This Season’s Makeup Trends

At Beautyfix we’re all about trends and the latest and greatest beauty and skincare products. As an esthetician, I have a natural knack for keeping up with the season’s makeup trends. The changing from winter to spring is beautiful especially with spring colors emerging into fashion and spring makeup. The hottest makeup trends are paired with the best runway fashions from the top designers. Some may be a little crazier than others like the neon eye shadow that you’ve seen on the runway from big designers. Then some are completely relatable to your everyday look. These spring makeup trends are the ones to implement into your beauty routine this season.

Eyes: Instead of going for a full blown smokey eye, (which can get boring after a while let’s admit it) the lids are much more toned down this season. Barely there eye makeup is making a comeback and pinks, tangerines and blues are perfect to experiment with. This trend I’m absolutely loving because it makes shadow application that much easier and is so chic. Another gorgeous eye trend to experiment with is lining your lower lids with color. This can make a bold and fabulous statement complementing your eye color. Try lining your lower lash line with a darker color then putting a jade green, turquoise or lavender purple over it. Using contrasting colors to your eye color can make them pop and look beautiful. Purple eye shadow is also a gorgeous trend to jump on the bandwagon for. It complements almost any eye color and coordinates with many different skin tones.

Lips: The lipstick shades for this season roll over from the Eastery colors that we constantly see. Coral is the color dominating our list. This shade is perfect for this time of year and looks great in a gloss, stain or matte finish. Stila’s Lip Color Sheer in Miranda is the perfect color and gives you the right amount of color and shine.

To top everything off, adding a glow to your cheeks is a must. RAW Natural Beauty’s Mineral Glow is one of my favorites as well as Too Faced’s The Bronzed and the Beautiful. I’ve always been a huge fan on Too Faced’s Snow Bunny bronzer and this awesome compact is a double threat with both Snow Bunny and Sun Bunny ready to rock for any type of glow that you could possibly need. Application is easy as it comes with a soft and fluffy kabuki brush.

When you’re looking for a spring color inspiration look at an Easter basket, you’ll find more than you need. From trying and using these bright and new makeup trends will bring you an unsuspecting joy in your everyday life. It may hit right after you apply or when you catch a glance of yourself in that window’s reflection on that building you pass on your lunch break. All in all, it’s worth a shot to keep your look up to date.
